Russet leaves, grey skies and comfy boots and jeans... autumn is truly a lovely time of year. And, it's a lovely time of year indoors, too - if you have a few key pieces to really make the most of it.
Here are three rental friendly updates to make to your home look and feel cosy this autumn 2017. Check out the popular homewares in each category, and remember that they're all super straightforward to include in your interior (whatever your style) and are all guaranteed to get lots of use well into the winter.

Soft Glowing Pools of Light
It's raining cats and dogs, you're trying to get the key into the lock, and your house is completely dark inside... doesn't sound too nice, does it?! Change all that by making a point of adding some nice lighting to your home this autumn. Create a cosy atmosphere by investing in some table lamps, and pop them in the rooms you use the most often (such as your living room and bedrooms), and think about adding to them to places such as hallways and kitchens.
Of course, you won't be chopping your veg by the flow of a jam jar light - but once you've wiped the kitchen down for the evening, seeing a little lamp shining brightly on the side just makes the home feel that little bit more special. Bonus points if you put some of your lamps on timers so that they're on and ready to welcome you when you arrive home after work...
Luxurious Textures
It's almost feeling cold enough to consider popping the heating on but do yourself (and your bank balance) a favour and opt for some luxurious textures to warm up your room up instead. From squishy rugs to super-soft blankets, comfy pillows and perhaps a pair of fleece-lined slippers, you'll be snug as a bug in a rug. Last autumn was all about faux fur cushions and blankets, as well as sheepskin rugs, but this autumn, everyone's going crazy for jewel tones and sumptuous fabric such as velvet and suede.
If you want to make the most of the things you're buying, opt for pieces that will work beautifully in a bedroom as well as your living room - you can move them from room to room and switch things up as you see fit.

Faux Greenery
2017 interiors has been all about greenery -from plants of the living and breathing variety to faux flowers, this key element of the boho trend is being adopted in homes of every style. Who doesn't own a fig leaf plant on Instagram nowadays? Of course, autumn and winter means less greenery of the tropical kind and more of the rolling British countryside kind. Think dried hydrangeas and dahlias, coloured glass bottles filled with sprigs of rosemary, branches of red willow and fern, and arrangements of evergreen berries with handfuls of mimosa. They lend some cheer to a room on grey days, nodding at hints of the natural world beyond a rain spattered window.
These three autumnal updates should get your home feeling a whole lot more ready for those dark nights and starry skies. Let me know what you're doing to prepare your home for the new season, and tell me where you're shopping too - I'm on the hunt for new autumn/winter homewares!
